Louis “GIG” Splendido, age 92 and a lifelong resident of Old Forge, died Tuesday evening at Mountain View Care Center in Scranton.
Born on July 19, 1925, and son of the late Vincenzo and Mary Russo Splendido, Lou was a graduate of Old Forge High School. He proudly served in the U.S, Army during WWII while earning both the Good Conduct Medal and European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with five bronze battle stars before his Honorable Discharge in 1945.
For many years prior to retirement, Lou worked as a tax collector for Lackawanna County. He certainly lived a full life, both independent and active into his 90’s. Loved by all who knew him, he will long be missed.
He is survived by his sister, Lena Gorman of Hazlett, New Jersey; and his beloved nieces and nephews, Donna DiMattia of Old Forge; Lorraine Daniels and husband Mark of Avoca; Louis Pugliano and wife Jeannine of State College; Anthony Spano and wife Lori of Old Forge; and Mary Ellen Ragusa and husband Ron of Sayreville, New Jersey; and many great nieces and great nephews.
His sister, Eleanor Pugliano and husband Furey, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday at 10:00AM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, to be conducted by Rev. Joseph LaCava. Interment with full military rites by the AMVETS Honor Guard will follow at the Marcy Cemetery, Duryea.
