Benjamin F. Smith Jr., 94, formerly of West Scranton, passed away Friday at Allied Skilled Nursing Center in Scranton following an illness.
Born in Clarks Summit on Dec. 17, 1923, and son of the late Benjamin F. Sr. and Maude M. Smith, Benjamin was educated in Clarks Summit Schools. He entered the military in 1943, joining the Army and proudly serving during World War II before his honorable discharge in 1945. He was admirably honored for his service, earning the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service and WWII Victory Ribbons. Before his retirement in 2005, he served as store clerk for Price Chopper, Monroe Avenue in Dunmore.
He is survived by his longtime fiance and best friend, Sandra Hannick of Scranton; and dear friends. He’ll be forever missed.
Blessing services are scheduled for Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton, to be conducted by Rev. Joseph Sica. Interment, with full military rites by the AMVETS Honor Guard, will follow at Dunmore Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until services at the funeral home.
