Princess Souad Chehab Salem, 89, died Sunday, Jan. 7, in Scranton after an illness.
Born in Damascus, Syria, on Dec. 10, 1928, she was the youngest of four children of Prince Jamil Chehab and Princess Mahiba Chehab.
Surviving are her husband, Maroun Assaad Salem, 12 Starlight Drive, Waverly Twp.; two sons, Ghayas, same address, and Rami, of Jermyn; daughters-in-law, Heather Milller Salem and Lori Ann Salem; a brother, Prince Fayez Chehab, Beirut, Lebanon; nieces and nephews.
Educated in Lebanon, she was manager of Talleb Laboratories there for 16 years, until resigning in the late 1960s.
She immigrated to the United States in 1978.
She was an avid student of the Bible and became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1950. She was well known in Lebanon as an advocate of the Bible to Christians and Muslims alike. She continued her ministry among Arabic- and English-speaking people in the United States. She was also proficient in Italian and French.
A memorial discourse will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 13, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 617 Morgan Highway, South Abington Twp. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the organization that she loved via https://apps.jw.org/DONATE
