Mary A. McGinley, 76, a lifelong resident of West Scranton, died Friday evening at Regional Hospital of Scranton. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Walsh, in 1970, and her second husband, Lawrence McGinley, in 2003.
Born Feb. 18, 1941, daughter of the late William and Mary Colleran Needham, Mary was a graduate of West Scranton High School, class of 1959. After working at the former Harper and Row Publishers in Dunmore, she worked in City of Scranton’s Treasurer’s Office. She eventually retired as department head from NET Federal Credit Union in Scranton, after 28 years. She was an active member of St. Ann’s Basilica Parish in West Scranton, where she also faithfully attended the Solemn Novena. Her strong devotion and unwavering faith served as her guiding light throughout her life.
She always enjoyed her family trips to Ocean City, Md., as her greatest joy came while spending time with her family. She loved her children and grandchildren with all of her heart, as they brought her so much happiness. Her family will greatly miss her, however her examples of faith, love and forgiveness will remain with them forever.
She is survived by three adoring children, Kim Bird and husband, Kevin; Kelli Guerra; and James Walsh and wife, Tammy; three beloved grandchildren, Christian Ryan Guerra, Nicholas Joseph Guerra and McKenzie Madeline Walsh; sisters, Ann Marie Marmo and husband, Robert; and Irene Webb and husband, Robert; a brother, James Needham and longtime, companion, Myrtle Archer; and sister-in-law, Florence Needham, all of Scranton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her siblings, William and Joseph Needham.
Her family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Drs. Michael Gilhooley, Thomas Roe and Lear Von Koch, along with the entire staff of Geisinger Mountain View Care Center, where she had been a recent guest, for their collective care and compassion.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Ann’s Basilica, West Scranton. Interment will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s name to the Mountain View Care Center Activities Department 2309 Stafford Ave., Scranton, PA 18505.
