Edward Grill, 98, a longtime Scranton resident, died Friday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Bayde Gustin Grill, on Dec. 13, 1998.
Born May 24, 1919, he was the son of the late Fred and Augusta Graff Grill. A proud World War II veteran, he was honorably discharge from the Navy. Before his retirement in the 1980’s, he worked as a manager for Stern Steel Co. of Titusville. He was a member of St. John Neumann Parish in South Scranton. Best remembered for his kind heart, he will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his sister-in-law and loving caretaker, Barbara Gustin, Scranton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by siblings, Elizabeth Hawk, Rita, Charles, Fred, Jack, Raymond, Jacob, Bill and Leonard Grill.
The family wishes to thank devoted caregiver and dear friend, Ellen Perez, for the care and compassion given to Edward throughout his illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. in St. John Neumann Parish, 633 Orchard St., Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. Michael Bryant, pastor. Burial with full military honors by the Simpson Honor Guard will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, West Scranton. Those wishing to attend the funeral are asked to go directly to church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Edward’s name to St. John Neumann Parish, 633 Orchard St., Scranton, Pa., 18505.
Arrangements are under the care of the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton.
