Domenic (Nick) R. Cappellini, 94 years young, of Old Forge, passed away Saturday at Riverstreet Manor in Wilkes Barre after a several day stay. His beloved wife of 48 years, Ruth Cromer Cappellini, preceded him in death on April 29, 1994.
Born in Hilldale, Luzerne County, on May 30, 1923, and son of the late Nello and Mary Lispi Cappellini, Nick was a graduate of the former Plains High School, Class of 1941. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII earning both the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal prior to his Honorable Discharge in 1946.
While briefly working as a coal miner, Nick won several electricial education books during a card game spurring a complete change of fate. He would study at the University of Scranton before earning his Bachelors of Science in Physics from Penn state University in 1950. He would go on to work for RCA in Camden, New Jersey, and Weston of Archbald, before Tobyhanna Army Depot, where he retired at age 70. Upon retirement, he became an adjunct professor at Luzerne County Community College, teaching electronics and engineering for over 19 years.
Nick loved electronics, engineering and physics. His passion became teaching and passing on his endless amount of knowledge to others, while touching the lives of countless throughout the years. A longtime member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Old Forge, he was a Roman Catholic who was deeply devoted to his faith. Loving, caring, selfless, dedicated and devoted to his family, he will forever be missed.

He is survived by his children, Ron Cappellini and wife Ann Marie of Old Forge, and Rose Cappellini of West Pittston; five grandchildren to their beloved “Pop”, Kristen Solfanelli, Kellene Harris and husband Jake, Ron Cappellini, Jr. and wife Kelley, Charise O’Konski and husband Bill and Erin Chapasko; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A grandson, Brian J. Budzak; a brother, Vincent Cappelini; and a four-year-old brother, Vincent, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Thursday at 9:15AM from the
Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, 620 Main Street in Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, Pastor. Burial, with full military rites by the AMVETS Honor Guard, will follow at Old Forge Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday between 4-7:00PM at the funeral home.
