Nicole Louise Scavo-Powell, a lifelong Taylor resident, passed away peacefully in her sleep at 2:17 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 28, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, after an illness.
Born on Sept. 21, 1974, and daughter of Elaine Kokosinski Scavo of Taylor and the late Louis Scavo, Nicole was a 1992 graduate of Riverside High School. She was an amazingly talented hair stylist who owned Styles by Nicole in Old Forge, Pa. Her true passion was yoga. She studied Ashtanga yoga at Lehigh Valley Yoga of Allentown, and cherished her practices with David Garrigues at the Ashtanga Yoga School of Philadelphia. She was owner of Mala Yoga in Dunmore, Pa., where she was a certified instructor. She was extremely passionate about sharing her wonderful gift.
Nicole was an amazing spirit, possessing an exuberance and energy matched by no other. Her capacity to love was immense and her compassionate heart, incomparable. She always thought of others before thinking of herself.
She married the love of her life, Eric Powell, on May 6, 2000. Inseparable from high school until her last moments, he always remained by her side. She was a devoted sister, but an even more devoted daughter who was within a moment’s notice to her mother whenever need be.
Beautiful, generous, devoted, loving, passionate, caring, compassionate, and full of energy with a light inside her to rival the sun, are merely a few words to describe a soul and spirit beyond description.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 17 years, Eric Powell; her adoring mother, Elaine Kokosinski Scavo, of Taylor; her loving sisters and brothers-in-law, Natalie Scavo and husband, Marc Perrone, of Harrisburg; Nadine Cali and husband, Frank, of Old Forge; John Powell and wife, Betty, of Duryea; and Scott Powell, of Moosic; her wonderful nephews who she loved dearly, Joel Cali and Michael Powell; and Casey and Molly, the two dogs which filled her life with love.
Per her own wishes, arrangements under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, will be private.
Everyone fortunate enough to have known Nicole knew of her deep love and compassion for all animals, especially dogs, so to show your love and honor this beautiful life, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Twp., PA 18411.
