Ronald P. Godlewski, age 68, of Old Forge, passed away Tuesday at Regional Hospital of Scranton, after an illness. He is survived by his beloved wife, Josephine (Dolly) Torrisi Godlewski. The couple celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on September 18th.
Born in Taylor on September 10, 1949, son of the late Frank, Sr. and Violet Kwak Godlewski, Ron was educated at Taylor High School, before graduating from Honesdale High School. A proud Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, the National Defense Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Medal with One Bronze Service Star, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his Honorable Discharge in 1976, he spent 20 years with the Pennsylvania National Guard, holding the rank of E6 Staff Sergeant.
A life member of both the Vietnam Veterans, Post #2, and the V.F.W., he was also a member of the Taylor American Legion. After 20 years of service, he retired from the Tobyhanna Army Depot.
A loyal San Francisco 49ers fan, he loved NFL football. Now at peace, he will always be missed.
He is also survived by his loving son, Jared Godlewski and wife June of Taylor; two grandsons, Matthew and Joshua Godlewski; siblings, Robert Godlewski of Moosic, Frank Godlewski, Jr., and wife Millie of Taylor, Joan Mulherin of Scranton and Patricia Valencia and husband Joseph of Moosic; and many nieces and nephews.
A sister, Bernice Gaura; and brothers-in-law, Archie Gaura and James Mulherin, also preceded him in death.
His family would like to thank Dr. Linda Barrasse, as well as Cathy of the Regional Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, for their tremendous care and compassion throughout Ron’s illness.
A Blessing Service is scheduled for Saturday at 10:00AM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Interment with military rites by the AMVETS Honor Guard will follow at Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst Twp. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday between 4-7PM at the funeral home.
