Charles Olexy, age 80, of North Scranton, passed away Thursday evening at Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit in Dunmore. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and best friend of 44 years, Sheila Welch Olexy, on June 11, 2011.
Born in Plymouth on May 9, 1937 and son of the late Adam, Sr., and Martha Young Olexy, Charles was educated at the former Plymouth High School. After briefly serving in the United States Army, he began a career spanning over 40 years as a truck driver. His longest employment was with Genuine Parts Company, having also lived in both Middlesex and Brick, New Jersey.
Past president of the Communication Club of Middlesex, he was an outdoorsman who enjoyed boating, fishing, racing cars and riding his quad. He was also a big fan of both John Wayne and Johnny Cash. Adored by his family and friends, he will forever be missed.
He is survived by his children, Cindy Olexy and companion Bill Thomas of Scranton, and Scott Olexy of Jackson, New Jersey; five loving grandchildren and two loving great granddaughters; and nieces and nephews.
Brothers, Robert, Adam, Jr., and William Olexy, also preceded him in death.
Private arrangements are under the care of the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton. Entombment will be at Clover Leaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge, N.J.
