Michael David Squirlock, age 57, of Old Forge and a recent resident of Clarks Summit Senior Living, passed away Wednesday morning at Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit in Dunmore, after a long, fought illness.
Born in Taylor Hospital on February 8, 1960, son of the late Servie and Sophie Welc Squirlock, Michael was a graduate of Old Forge High School, Class of 1978. He then earned his Bachelors Degree in Science in Electronic Engineering from the University of Scranton in 1982.
Employed six years as a field engineer for UNISYS Corporation, he worked in Long Island, New York, Las Cruces, New Mexico, and at Newark Air Force Base, Ohio. He then worked for 17 years as the in-plant engineer of manufacturing ink jet printers for LOVESHAW Corporation, South Canaan.
A faithful lifelong member of the former St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Old Forge, upon its closure he became a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Duryea. An outdoorsman who enjoyed camping and fishing, Michael was a true rock enthusiast who belonged to, along with his father, the NEPA Mineral Society. He also enjoyed computer programming. Passing away peacefully, Michael will certainly be missed.
He is survived by his loving brother, John Squirlock and wife Laura of Highland, Maryland; his nephew, Joey Squirlock; his niece, Nellie Squirlock; and cousins.
His brother would like to thank the staffs of both Clarks Summit Senior Living and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the tremendous care given to his brother while Michael was under their care.
A blessing service is scheduled for Saturday, August 26th, at 10:00AM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Old Forge.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 5-7:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Michael’s name to Hospice of the Sacred Heart Memorial fund, c/o 600 Baltimore Drive # 7, Wilkes-Barre, Pa., 18702.
