Jean Chelland, age 95, of Old Forge, passed away Thursday morning at home. She was preceded in death on September 28, 2003 by her beloved husband of 62 years, Joseph “Bro” Chelland.
Born in Taylor on August 5, 1922 and daughter of the late John and Mary (Molly) Quinn, Jean was a graduate of the former Taylor High School, Class of 1940. For 22 years she worked for Hillcrest Lampshade Factory, prior to her retirement. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a longtime member of Prince of Peace Parish in Old Forge.
Possessing an amazing voice, Jean enjoyed singing and had been a choir member years ago. She enjoyed the beach and taking trips to various casinos, never passing up a good slot machine. Despite being 100% Irish, Jean was amazing at preparing Italian dishes. Above all her family, especially her grandchildren, was the most important thing to her. Passing away peacefully, she’ll forever be loved and missed.
She is survived by her children, George Chelland and wife Donna and Patricia Toraldo, all of Old Forge, and Catherine Chelland of Dunmore; grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Joseph Chelland, on July 4th; son-in-law, Gaetano Toraldo; sisters, Lenore Ghigiarelli and Madge Flynn; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Mariotti.
Her family would like to express its gratitude by thanking the staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart; Drs. Kenneth Sebastianelli and Samir Pancholy; and her caregivers, Sharon Cardamone, Alnisa Hardy and Amy Horrocks, who with their amazing love and care, made it possible for Jean to continue to live at home.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Monday at 8:45AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 9:30AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Church at Prince of Peace Parish, Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, Pastor. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Old Forge.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday between 3-6:00PM at the funeral home.
