Janice Santarelli Forconi, of Olyphant, passed away on Monday evening, July 24th, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death in 1959 by her husband, Louis Forconi.
Born in Archbald and daughter of the late Mariano and Mary (Cicchi) Santarelli, Janice was a graduate of Olyphant High School. She graduated from Drexel University in 1955 where she earned both a degree in Nutrition and also met her husband. She would later earn a degree in Elementary Education from Marywood College before beginning a long and rewarding career in education. She taught at St. Patrick’s Elementary School before serving in the Mid-Valley School District, where she taught third and fourth grade students for many years. She served as a mentor to her students and to young teaching colleagues.
Both fun-loving and sociable, Janice loved to entertain and host wonderful dinner parties for her friends and family. She’ll be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Janice is survived by her son, Louis “Chip” Forconi and his wife Nancy of Vermilion, Ohio, and her daughter, Julianne Cusick and her husband Patrick of Lititz; her grandchildren, Maria “Ani” Cusick of Lancaster, Krysta Cusick of Lancaster, Lindsay Forconi of Nashville,Tennessee, and Alex Forconi of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, Frank Santarelli of Justus and nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death was a brother, Vincent Santarelli, and many dear aunts, uncles and cousins.
Her family wishes to thank Janice’s close circle of friends for their unconditional love and longtime friendship.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Wednesday, July 26th, at 2:00PM at Immaculate Conception Church, 801 Taylor Avenue, Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Joseph Sica. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Parish Cemetery in Olyphant. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the church from 1:00PM until Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Janice’s name to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Township, Pa., 18411. Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Homes, Inc., Scranton and Old Forge.
