Janet Wickizer Kreig, age 81, of Moosic’s Greenwood section, died Friday at Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, John Kreig, Jr..
Born in Duryea on August 14, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Margaret Miller Wickizer. She was a 1953 graduate of Duryea High School. She then moved to Philadelphia for a brief time and worked for Bell Telephone. Upon returning home and marrying John she held numerous occupations. She was book keeper for Kreig Excavating, her husbands business, Topps Chewing Gum Co., Chamberlain, and Head Start – Scranton, Upon retirement, she served as the cook at her daughter’s daycare, Sunshine and Rainbows, where she was considered “grammy” to hundreds of children.
She was a member of the Eastern Star, and Head Start’s “Valley Girls Club.” She enjoyed traveling, having covered much of the globe, and passing down traditions, like making cookies at the holidays or canning in the fall. She enjoyed football. She was a Pittsburgh Steeler’s fan and a Penn State Season ticket holder for many years. Janet was a loving mother, sister, an adoring grandmother and great grandmother. Janet’s life was her family. Her morals and values will forever serve as her legacy, continually passed down through generations. Loved by all who knew her, she will be dearly missed. She was a faithful lifetime member of the Brick United Methodist Church in Duryea.
She is survived by her children, Jocelyn Kreig of Moosic, Margaret (Peggy) Marko and husband Ken of Bridgewater, N.J., Janet Grace and husband Paul of Moosic and John Kreig, III, and wife Rebecca of Jessup; siblings, Donald Wickizer of Moosic, Robert Wickizer of Duryea, Peggy Cremard and Marilyn Pepsin, both of Old Forge; three grandchildren, Melissa Marko, Amanda McCabe and Abigail Kreig; a great granddaughter, Emma McCabe; and many nieces and nephews.
Siblings, Russell, Arthur, Richard, Kenneth and Barry Wickizer and Jean Fretti also preceded Janet in death.
Funeral services by Rev. Sharon Deitz, Pastor of the Brick U.M. Church, are scheduled for Wednesday at 9:30AM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Interment, private.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday between 4-7:00PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Janet’s name to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL., 33607.
