Eileen Marie Best, age 82, of Old Forge, passed away Wednesday at Riverside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Taylor. She is survived by her beloved husband and best friend, Joseph M. Best, Sr. Wed on November 15, 1953, the couple celebrated 63 years of marriage.
Born on December 14, 1934, Eileen was the daughter of the late John and Helen Zupko McAndrew. While raising her seven children, she worked many years for the Skyliner Diner in Dupont before Judy’s Diner in Old Forge. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish in Avoca.
Eileen enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren who she always sang “de-di-do” to. She possessed amazing humor which she passed onto her seven children. A regular on the local bingo circuit, she rarely missed a game at the Eagle McClure Hose Company in Old Forge. Passing away peacefully and surrounded by her adoring family, she will never be forgotten.
She is survived by her seven children, Joseph Best, Jr. and wife Cindy of Old Forge, Patty Romano of Old Forge, Susan Allen of Hanover Twp., Lisa Paolucci and husband Tony of Scranton, Robin Best of Old Forge, Martin Best and wife Diane of Scranton and Kevin Best of Moosic; her sister, Dolores Yanko of New Jersey; 18 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Siblings, Jack McAndrew and Joan Smalley, also preceded her in death.
Her family wishes to acknowledge and thank the staff of Riverside Center. The care and comfort given to Eileen and her family will be forever appreciated.
A blessing service by Rev. Philip J. Sladicka, Pastor of Queen of the Apostles Parish, is scheduled for Friday, July 7th, at 7:00PM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Relatives and friends may pay their respects from 4:00PM until services.
