Joseph S. “Poncho” Leonard, 63, of Scranton, died Monday evening surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by the love of his life for twenty-two-and-a-half years, Terry Wachholz.
Born April 9, 1954, in Scranton, he was the son of Ann Vanyo VanWert, Scranton, and the late Edward J. Leonard, Sr. A graduate of West Scranton High School, he was employed by Techniglas for 19 years and later on by Keystone Block. He was of the Catholic faith.
An avid outdoorsman, Poncho enjoyed hunting, fishing, kayaking and animals, rare or medium well. He loved NASCAR and Keystone Light. His best friend was his furry son, Bandit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff of Compassionate Care Hospice for all their love and support during Poncho’s sickness. Your acts of kindness and love will always be remembered.
Also surviving are his stepchildren, Nicole Lello, Matthew Wachholz and Jessica Moran, all of Scranton; grandchildren, Jacob, Karissa, Michael and Elijah; brother, Eddie “Special Ed” Leonard, Scranton; sisters, Maribeth Harrington, Scranton; Melissa Jenkins, Clarks Summit; Dawn Marie Locker, Scranton; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday with a blessing service at 6:30 p.m. by Rev. Richard Fox, pastor of St. Patrick’s Parish, and a celebration of Poncho’s life to follow at 7 in the Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 5 until the time of the service in the funeral home.
