Servie Theodore Squirlock, age 89, of Old Forge, passed away Wednesday morning at the Gino Merli Veteran Center in Scranton. He was preceded in death on April 17, 2013 by his beloved wife of 58 years, Sophie Welc Squirlock.
Born on January 25, 1928, and son of the late John, Sr., and Catherine Golembesky Squirlock, Servie served in the United States Army, honorably discharged in 1952. He then graduated from the Johnson School of Technology, where he received a Machinist Degree in 1955. For over 30 years prior to his retirement, he worked as a machinist for Wesel Manufacturing of Scranton.
Prior to its closure, he was a faithful member of the former St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church of Old Forge. More recently, he belonged to Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Duryea. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and camping. Also a rock enthusiastic, he belonged to the NEPA Mineral Society for many years. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his two loving sons, John Squirlock and wife Laura of Highland, Maryland, and Michael Squirlock, with whom Servie resided; two grandchildren, Joey and Nellie Squirlock; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Edward and John Squirlock, Jr., and an infant sister, Valeria.
A blessing service by Rev. Fran Landry, C.P., Pastor of Saint Ann’s Basilica Parish, will be Saturday at 10:00AM in Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Old Forge.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday, June 16th, between 5-7:00PM at the funeral home.
