James Patrick Philbin, Jr., age 88, a lifelong Scranton resident, passed away peacefully Wednesday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ann Gaven Philbin.
Born on March 13, 1929, James was the son of the late James Patrick, Sr. and Mary Maher Philbin. Both a Scranton Technical High School and University of Scranton graduate, he honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Retiring as a district salesman from Mutual of Omaha, he leaves behind an amazing family who will forever adore him.
He was a faithful and devoted member of St. Patrick’s Parish in West Scranton.
Surviving are five daughters, Mary Nora Dishman and husband Kenny of Bellefonte, Annmarie DeWitt and husband Stephen of Poquoson, Virginia, Patricia Walsh and husband Atty. Joseph of Scranton, Erin Boyle and husband Chris of Pittsburgh, and Meghan Coury and husband Atty. John of Scranton; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Brothers, John, Joseph, William and Robert Philbin also preceded him in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel with burial to follow at Cathedral Cemetery will be private. Arrangements are under the care of the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton.
