Rita T. Novak, age 89, of West Scranton, passed away Saturday at Linwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond J. Novak, on November 10, 1978.
Born in Minooka on April 24, 1928 and daughter of the late Frank and Michalina Murawski Malinowski, Rita was educated in Minooka schools. She was a tremendously hard worker her entire life, usually holding multiple jobs, to ensure her family was provided for. She was an amazing cook, loved her polkas and would never pass up a game of bingo. Adored by her loved ones and friends, she will be dearly missed.
She was a devoted member of St. Paul of the Cross Parish in South Scranton.
She is survived by her loving children, JoAnn Diehl of Scranton, Robert Novak and wife Kim of Forty Fort and Raymond D. Novak; her last of six siblings, Ann Surridge of Taylor; five grandchildren, Jessica Amabile, Joseph Diehl, Matt Novak, Ray Novak and Mark Novak; and many nieces and nephews.
Siblings, Jean Maros, Nettie Owens, Helen, Walter and Frank “Mo” Malinowski also preceded her in death.
Her family would like to thank longtime physician and friend, Dr. Michael Montella, for his years of selfless care and compassion.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Wednesday at 10:00AM at St. Paul of the Cross, 1217 Prospect Avenue in South Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Scott Sterowski, Pastor. Interment will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the funeral are asked to go directly to the church.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday betweeh 5-7:00PM in the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton.
