Daniel P. McNamara, age 63, a longtime West Scranton resident, passed away Saturday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton.
Born on May 22, 1953 and son of the late Paul Francis and Theresa McDonnell McNamara, Daniel was a graduate of West Scranton High School, Class of 1971.
After working for the International Correspondence School in Scranton, he moved to California. He served as restaurant manager of Beckham Place in Pasadena and the club manager at the Altadena Town and Country Club in Altadena before returning to Scranton. Prior to retirement, he was the bartender at the former Villa Maria I in West Scranton.
His life was his family, adoring his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and sharing a special bond with his siblings. He enjoyed fishing, was extremely handy, and was taken from his loved ones too soon. He will be forever missed by his countless family and friends.
His legacy will undoubtedly live on through those who benefit from his selfless act of cornea donation.
He is survived by two sisters, Mari Carr and Carol Fahey and husband Michael, all of Scranton; three brothers, Paul McNamara and Timothy McNamara and wife Ann Marie, all of Scranton, and Brian McNamara and wife Holly of Lake Winola; nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Thursday at 10:00AM from the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with a 10:30AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street in West Scranton, to be concelebrated by Msgr. David Tressler, former Pastor, and Rev. Richard Fox, Pastor. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday between 9-10:00AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Daniel’s name to St. Joseph’s Center, 2010 Adams Avenue, Scranton, Pa., 18509.
