Obituaries

Madeline E. Smith, 100 years young and a lifelong resident of Scranton, passed away Saturday at The Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania in Scranton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Smith, on July 28, 1997.
Born on November 26, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Barbara Secora Pfeiffer. She retired in 1974 as a machine operator for the former Haddon Craftsman, Inc., of Scranton. Of Roman Catholic faith, she remained a loyal member of St. Patrick’s Parish in West Scranton for over 50 years. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Maslak and wife Rosemarie of Treasure Island, Florida, and Joseph Smith of Scranton; six grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. She also had three sisters, all from the Scranton area.
Her family wishes to thank the entire staff of The Jewish Home for their amazing comfort, care and kindness to Madeline throughout her twelve year stay with them.
A Catholic blessing service is scheduled for Monday at 10:00AM in the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton. Interment will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery, Oram Street in West Scranton. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Monday from 9AM until services.
