Leonard A. Ruane, Jr., age 62, of Wellsboro, passed away Monday morning at Green Ridge Health Care Center, after an illness.
Born in Scranton he was the son of the late Leonard, Sr., and Anna Jean Boyd Ruane. A graduate of Scranton Central High School, he earned a Bachelors Degree from Mansfield University where he was also a member of Sigma Tau Gamma (Sig Tau) Fraternity.
He served as the Director of Residential Services for Tioga County until his retirement in 2007. A true outdoorsman, he was a longtime hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his sister, Catherine A. DelSerra and husband Dr. Joseph of Scranton; his nephew and niece, J.J. DelSerra of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Samantha DelSerra of Minneapolis, Mn.; an aunt, Eleanor Peron of Scranton; many cousins and friends and his faithful dog Lilly.
His former wife, Susan Ives Ruane, preceded him in death.
His family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Barry Minora; Hospice of the Sacred Heart’s staff, especially Tara; the staff of Green Ridge Health Care Center, and the many friends and relatives whose support and care throughout his illness were both amazing and forever appreciated.
A blessing service to be celebrated by Rev. Joseph Sica is scheduled for Saturday, April 22nd, at noon in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Relatives and friends may pay their respects from 11:00AM until services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Leonard’s name to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Memorial Fund c/o 600 Baltimore Drive #7, Wilkes Barre, Pa., 18702.
