David McDonnell, age 53 and a lifelong resident of Old Forge, died Sunday at home.
Born on September 13, 1963 and son of the late Geraldine Baronowski McDonnell, he was a graduate of Old Forge High School. Dave worked various jobs throughout Old Forge, from Northern Pallet and Cook’s Wholesale Foods to Sohara Auto Service, however his true loves were both grass trimming and snow plowing. All of those who knew him will long remember him riding his tractor through the town.
He adored his friends and was always willing to stop and chat. He was kind and friendly and certainly possessed a heart of gold. Passing away unexpectedly, he will always be missed.
He is survived by his aunt, Connie Baronowski Thompson of Florida; and many friends, especially both Ed Rutkowski and Tom Chickey. For 50 years, throughout the good times and the bad, Tom and Ed stuck by Dave’s side every step of the way.
His beloved sister, Rosalie McDonnell, also preceded him in death.
To everyone who took the time to make Dave feel special throughout his life’s journey, including the doctors, therapists and those who took a few moments out of their day to give him a ride or even share a brief conversation, thank you.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday at 9:30AM at St. Lawrence O’Toole Roman Catholic Church, 620 S. Main St., Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, Pastor. Interment, St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at the church between 8:30-9:30AM.
Do to his love of the outdoors, memorial contributions may be made in Dave’s name to the Endless Mountain Nature Center, 1309 Vosburg Road, Tunkhannock, Pa., 18657.
Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Please visit the funeral home’s website to leave an online condolence.
