Dorothy Talipski, age 84 and a lifelong resident of the Greenwood section of Moosic, died Saturday evening at the Riverside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Taylor, after an illness.
Born on October 28, 1932, and daughter of the late Adam and Anna Paczkowski Talipski, Dorothy was a graduate of the former Moosic High School. Upon graduation, she earned her Degree in Mortuary Science from the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service, New York City.
She retired as an employee of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, working for the Clarks Summit State Hospital. However, until its closure in 2014, Dorothy was also the proud owner and operator of Dorothy Talipski Home for Funerals, located at 3401 Pittston Avenue in Moosic’s Greenwood section. For countless decades, she was able to help heal grieving families cope with their loss, while leaving her lasting impression.
She was also a longtime member of the Lackawanna County Funeral Directors Association, where she selflessly served as treasurer for the majority of her tenure.
Of strong Roman Catholic faith, Dorothy was a longtime member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, prior to its closure. She belonged to Divine Mercy Parish in Scranton’s Minooka section, where she was very active, singing in both church and adult choirs.
Dorothy was certainly not shy, freely speaking her mind as she wished and those around her knew exactly where they stood in her book. That’s exactly why she was great and will never be forgotten.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Brother, Bernard and Raymond Talipski, and an infant sister, Freda Talipski, also preceded her in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial and committall is scheduled for Friday at 10:30AM at Divine Mercy Church, 312 Davis Street in Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Francis Lawrence Pauselli, Pastor. Private burial will follow at St. Mary Czestochowa Cemetery in Moosic.
Those attending the funeral are asked to proceed directly to the church.
