Jeffrey Genell, age 46, of the Tripps Park section of West Scranton, and formerly of Old Forge, passed away Thursday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. Surviving is his loving wife of 12 years, Jennifer McGurrin Genell. The couple were married on September 24, 2004.
Born in Old Forge, son of Patricia Belaski Genell of Old Forge, Jeff graduated from Old Forge High School before earning a Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology from Wilkes University. He had worked for Fastenal Company.
Of Roman Catholic faith, he belonged to St. Patrick’s Parish. A New York Yankee fanatic, Jeff enjoyed sports. He truly adored his family, and his greatest joy came while spending time with his “super buddy”, his son Nico. Taken suddenly, he’ll be forever missed by both family and friends.
He is also survived by two brothers, Jason Genell and fiance Amy Marie Nichols of Taylor and Joseph (J.J.) Genell and wife Peggy of Scranton; a mother-in-law, Betty Zvolensky of Scranton; a sister-in-law, Tricia McGurrin of Bear Creek; a brother-in-law, Mark Zvolensky of Scranton; and nephews and nieces, Godson Dakota Genell, S.J. Genell, David Pilger, Olivia Marquez and McKenzie Nichols.
Grandparents, Caroline and Joseph Belaski, also preceded him in death.
Services have been set for Jeffrey Genell, age 46, of the Tripps Park section of West Scranton, and formerly of Old Forge, who passed away Thursday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton.
Blessing services will be Thursday at 7:00PM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday from 4:00PM until services. Private interment will be at St. John’s Cemetery in Duryea.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nico Genell Trust Fund, established at any branch of Community Bank N.A.
