Robert G. Hughes, 75, a lifelong resident of Old Forge, died Friday at Geisinger C.M.C., Scranton. His beloved wife of 54 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Smith Hughes, survives.
Born on October 15, 1941 and son of the late Garfield and Sabra Dale Hughes, Robert attended Old Forge High School before working as a butcher for Polarized Meats in Moosic. For 25 years prior to his retirement, Robert worked for Made Rite Steak Co. in Dunmore. He had a tremendous work ethic which he instilled in his children. A member of the Lawrenceville Primitive Methodist Church, prior to its closure, he also belonged to the Old Forge Lions Club. He will be forever missed by dear family and friends.
He is also survived by his children, Robert W. Hughes of Old Forge and Tammy Lynn Cottrell and companion Floyd Dutter of Peckville; brothers, John Hughes and wife Janet of Newton-Ransom and George Hughes and wife Theresa of Old Forge; two grandchildren, Thomas Cottrell and Jasmine Dutter; and nieces and nephews.
Children, Penny Lynn and Kevin John Hughes; and a sister, Sally Harris and husband George, also preceded him in death.
His family wishes to thank the entire staff of Geisinger C.M.C.’s I.C.U. for their amazing care and compassion.
Funeral services to be conducted Rev. Doug Hoeffner are scheduled for Thursday at 7:00PM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Relatives and friends may pay their respects from 4-7:00PM at the funeral home. Interment at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Twp, will be Wednesday at 1:00PM.
