Michael G. Kavulich, Jr., 63, Taylor, unexpectedly passed away Sunday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center. He is survived by his adoring wife, Beverly Kohut Kavulich. The couple celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on May 22nd.
Born on October 15, 1953, Michael was the son of Jane Boyd Kavulich of Scranton and the late Michael G. Kavulich, Sr. A 1971 graduate of the former Central Scranton High School, he proudly earned his Degree in Business Administration from Lackawanna College in 2015. Prior to his retirement, he worked 27 years as a warehouseman for Harper Collins Publishers. He was a proud member of the Local Teamsters #229, for whom he proudly served as union steward.
A consummate family man, Michael cherished any opportunity to spend time with his beloved children and grandchildren. With a keen “green thumb,” Michael was an avid gardener who enjoyed the outdoors and toiling in his backyard garden. He was a true craftsman and a notorious recycler of anything and everything. He also enjoyed cooking, canning and playing the mandolin and harmonica with his grandson. He’ll forever be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother and “Papa.”
He is also survived by his five children, Kelly Munley and husband Thomas of Scranton, Michael Kavulich, III, and wife Angela of Beacon, New York, Janie Kavulich and companion Alex Jones of Mountain Top, Ryan Kavulich of Avoca and Rebekah Kavulich and companion Ralph Verdetto of Kingston; his three beloved grandchildren, his best buddy Tristan, Tessa and Rosanna; siblings, Paul Kavulich and wife Dawn, Cheryl Van Fleet and husband Gary, and Robert Kavulich, all of Scranton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Maury Kavulich, and his nephew, Justin Kavulich.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Friday at 9:15AM from the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, 1608 Oram Street in West Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Stephen Krawontka, Associate Pastor.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday between 4-7:00PM at the funeral home.
