Sally Yovish, age 83, of Dunmore, passed away peacefully Thursday evening at home, after an illness. Her beloved husband, Robert Yovish, Sr., survives.
Born in Scranton on May 13, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Soloman and Hesna Hanam Karam. Sally was educated at West Scranton High School before being married and raising her three adoring children.
A lifelong member of Saint Ann Maronite Church in West Scranton, she also belonged to the church’s Our Lady Queen of Peace Sodality. The second oldest of ten siblings and the oldest female, her motherly nature was evident in the way she deeply cared for her younger brothers and sisters. She enjoyed sewing and crafting and her family will be sure to miss her amazing Lebanese cooking. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, she will be forever missed by her many loved ones.
She is survived by her three children, Maria Yovish of Dunmore, Diana Horvath and husband Paul of Throop and Robert Yovish, Jr., of Hellertown; her three brothers, William Karam and wife Marie of Waverly, Joseph Karam of Scranton and Albert Karam and wife Marie of Chapman Lake; her four sisters, Theresa Zuerblis and husband William of Scranton, Mary Ann Horutz and husband Robert of Clarks Summit and Marlene Karam and Evelyn Karam, both of Scranton; a grandson, Robert Paul Yovish of Hellertown; a sister-in-law, Alice Karam of Scranton; and many nieces and nephews.
Brothers, John and Francis Karam, also preceded her in death.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Monday at 9:30AM from the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with a 10:30AM Funeral Mass at Saint Ann Maronite Church, 1320 Price Street in West Scranton, to be celebrated by Msgr. Francis J. Marini, Pastor. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Sunday between 2-5:00PM. An incense service will be at 4:30PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sally’s name to her church, care of Saint Ann Maronite Parish, 1320 Price Street, Scranton, Pa., 18504.
