Agnes Golenski, age 91, of Old Forge and formerly of Dupont, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning at home, with her son and daughter-in-law by her side. Her husband, Walter “Butler” Golenski, preceded her in death on December 13, 2002.
Born in Dupont on December 29, 1924, and daughter of the late Frank and Mary Seman Lizak, Agnes was a graduate of the former Dupont High School. She worked as a telephone operator in New York City and then as a domestic in Philadelphia, before returning home. After many years of employment, she retired as a seamstress from Dupont and Pittston sewing factories, a job she was both very talented at and enjoyed. She was also a longtime member of Holy Mother of Sorrows Parish in Dupont.
Agnes was well-travelled, and enjoyed spending winters with Walter in the southwest, most recently in Deming, New Mexico. The Queen of the Casinos, she loved spending time in Atlantic City or at the Mohegan Sun. She will be missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, James Rogers and wife Judy of Old Forge; a step-son, Michael Golenski Belden of Idaho; siblings, Matthew Lizak of Florida, Irene Dolman of Dupont, Betty Morganti and husband Carmen of Pittston and Veronica Strasburger of Dickson City; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Rogers and wife Heather of Hershey, Darlene Lenz and husband Enrique of Virginia, and Richard Gedrich and wife Christa of Connecticut; several great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death was a step-daughter, Darlene Gedrich Gerlak, grandson, Douglas Gedrich; and siblings, John, Frank, William, Andrew, Joseph, Thomas and Julia Lizak, Mary Tousaint and Margaret Lepper.
Her family would like to thank Agnes’ doctor, Anees Fogley, along with his staff for years of tremendous care.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for Saturday at 10:00AM at Holy Mother of Sorrows Polish National Catholic Church, 212 Wyoming Avenue in Dupont, 18641, to be celebrated by Rev. Zbigniew Dawid, Pastor. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the church on Saturday from 9:30AM until Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Agnes’ name to her church.
