David E. Evans, West Scranton, died unexpectedly Tuesday in Ruskin, Florida. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sandra Jones Evans.Born in Scranton in 1941, he was the son of the late William and Mary Jeffreys Evans. He was a graduate of West Scranton High School and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. Prior to retirement, he was employed for 20 years by PPL Electric Utilities as well as being a former employee of Northeastern Bank and owner of both Dave’s Store and the Hampton Inn. He was a member of Jackson Street Baptist Church and former member of Acacia Lodge No. 579, Taylor. He was a longtime season ticket holder and fan of Penn State Football, attending almost all home games, and a large number of away games with his brothers and friends for over four decades as well as being a longtime supporter of West Scranton High School athletics. However, there was nothing that he supported more than his sons and now grandchildren; always doing what he needed to in order to attend their activities. Dave thoroughly enjoyed spending his winters in Florida. His days there were spent with his wife and their large collection of friends and family; enjoying time at the pool, taking trips, and of course their official and unofficial daily happy hours. Everything he did in his life was best summed up by a friend, “It’s just Davey being Davey”. Also surviving are sons, Jeffrey and wife Mary Beth of South Abington Twp., Christopher and wife Marisa of Clarks Green; brother, Thomas and wife Ruth; a sister, Martha and husband Dan Jones of Clarks Summit; sister-in-law Margaret of Scranton; grandchildren, Taylor, Matthew, Macsen, and Callen; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also preceded in death by his brother, William Evans Jr. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday at 10:00AM at the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue in Scranton, to be conducted by Rev. James Buchanon, Pastor of Berean Church in West Scranton. Burial will follow at Abington Hills Cemetery. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday between 2:00-5:00PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David’s name to the donor’s favorite charity.
