Edmund Maslanka, age 100, a lifelong resident of Taylor, passed away Monday morning at Linwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Scranton.
Born on Leap Year, 1916, and son of the late Joseph and Antonina Barnash, Edmund was a graduate of the former Taylor High School, Class of 1934. Prior to his retirement, he worked at a linoleum factory. He was a proud Army Veteran of WWII, having been honorable discharged in 1945. He earned the African Middle Eastern Campaign and World War II Victory Medals for his bravery.
Of Roman Catholic faith, he was a devoted member of the former St. Michael’s Church in Old Forge, prior to its closure. An avid gardener, he took great pride in his garden. A major baseball and football fan, he especially loved both the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Eagles. He was a kind, generous and selfless man, who will be forever missed.
He is survived by nieces and nephews, Theresa (Dina) Maychrowitz, Dorothy Kline, Raymond Maychrowitz, Bernie Gach, Robert Maslanka, Verna Murphy and many great nieces and great nephews.
Siblings, Joseph, John and Frank Maslanka, and Ethel Maslanka, Sophie Maychrowitz and Elizabeth Jutman, also preceded Edmund in death.
A graveside blessing service is scheduled for Friday at 11:30AM at Holy Cross Cemetery in Old Forge. Military honors will be conducted by the AMVETS Honor Guard. Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge.
