Obituaries

Maryann Chacko, age 71, of Pittston, passed away Sunday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, after an illness. She is survived by her loving husband, John Chacko.
Born in Pittston on March 29, 1945, daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Stelma Yesaltis, Maryann was a graduate of the former Northeast High school of Duryea. She earned her Bachelors Degree from College Misericordia before attaining a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Scranton. She worked for the New York State School System before raising her family. Prior to her retirement, she taught at Holy Rosary School in Duryea.
An avid traveler who also enjoyed shopping, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother to her four adoring grandchildren, sister, relative and friend. She will be forever missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Maria Chacko and companion Gustavo Nieves of Pittston; two brothers, Jerome Salaitis and wife Anita and James Salaitis and wife Barbara, all of Duryea; four grandchildren, John Thomas, Anthony, Gianna and Jaydin; dear friend and cousin, Hillary Michaylo and husband Aaron of Old Forge; and nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to thank Pittston’s FIC Dialysis staff for six years of amazing care.
A Celebration of Maryann’s Life will begin on Saturday, October 29th, at 5:00PM at her family’s residence, 156 Panama Street in Pittston, 18640. Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
