Paula L. Butrim, age 69, of Taylor, died Thursday evening at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, after an illness. She is survived by her beloved husband and best friend, Thomas Butrim.
Born on August 26, 1947, daughter of the late Paul and Louise Butch Zuder, Paula was a graduate of the former Taylor High School, Class of 1965. Prior to her retirement, she worked 30 years for the Department of Welfare in Scranton. She was also a longtime member of St. George’s Orthodox Church in Taylor.
She was an excellent cook, thrifty with coupons and an adoring animal lover, mother to six cats and a dog. A loving wife, mother, relative and friend, Paula passed away Thursday surrounded by her family. She will forever be missed.
She is also survived by her son, Mark P. Serpico of Arizona; her sisters-in-law, Helene Kosierowski and husband Michael of Moosic and Barbara Walters and husband William of Taylor; her best friend, Jean Keiper of Scranton; and nieces and nephews.
Her husband would like to thank the entire staffs of both Moses Taylor Hospital and Linwood Nursing Center, as well as Dr. Kathryn Sallavanti, for the collective care given to Paula throughout her illness.
Private funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday. Interment will follow at St. George’s Parish Cemetery in Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Paula’s name to either Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Township, Pa., 18411, or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, JDRF, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, N.Y., 10004.
