Marie Seymour, 87, of Scranton, died Monday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center. Her husband, Gerald Seymour Sr., preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 2011.
Born in Scranton on Nov. 20, 1928, daughter of the late George and Isabelle Houser Weikel. Upon raising her adoring family, she worked at the former Central and Scranton Technical high schools and North Scranton Junior High School as a cafeteria assistant. She was a longtime member of the Court Street United Methodist Church.
She possessed a tremendous heart, deeply caring for her family as well as anyone in need. She was also a volunteer for Telespond Senior Services. She touched the lives of many with her memorable humor and genuine love. Passing away unexpectedly while surrounded by her family, she will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her children, Gerald Seymour Jr. and wife, Mary, Scranton; Genevieve Fuller, Carbondale; Beverly Seymour, Olyphant; and Marie Geeting and husband, James, Scranton; a brother, Robert Weikel, Scranton; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a beloved son, Bruce Seymour; a grandson, Rick Cooper Jr.; a son-in-law, Robert Fuller Sr.; and siblings, George Weikel, Shirley Chapla, Margaret Pate and Mary Heneck.
Her family would like to thank the doctor and staff of Geisinger CMC’s emergency room department for their care and compassion.
The funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, by the Rev. Arthur Davis. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Dunmore.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
