Theresa M. Tomasofsky, age 71, a lifelong resident of West Scranton, passed away Sunday at Regional Hospital of Scranton, after an illness. Preceding her in death was her husband, Richard J. Tomasofsky, Sr., in 1988.
Born on April 26, 1945, daughter of the late Joseph and Frances Doran Kazlauskas, Theresa was a graduate of the former St. Patrick’s High School, Class of 1963. A kind-hearted woman, she worked at St. Joseph’s Center in her youth.
Of deep Roman Catholic faith, she was a devoted member of St. Patrick’s Parish in West Scranton. Active within the church, she sung in the choir and belonged to the Society of the Faithful. She was also a member of the West Side Senior Citizens and she enjoyed both trips to the casino and St. Patrick’s Night at the Races. A loving mother, sister, aunt and niece, she’ll be forever missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Tomasofsky, at home; her sister, Kay Zuby of Clarks Summit; her niece and goddaughter, Debbie Zuby of Clarks Summit; aunts and uncles; and her best friend, Marina Morris of Scranton.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Richard J. Tomasofsky, Jr.; and her brother-in-law, Peter S. Zuby.
Her family would like to thank surgeon Dr. John Mitchell and his entire staff, along with Regional Hospital and Geisinger C.M.C.’s staffs, for the tremendous care they collectively gave to Theresa.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Friday at 9:15AM from the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street, to be celebrated by Rev. Stephen Krawontka, Associate Pastor. Interment will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton.
