Marjorie A. “Toots” Kramer, 94, a lifelong resident of Duryea, died peacefully Thursday evening in the Inpatient Unit of Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, surrounded by her family.
Born February 21, 1922 in Duryea to the late August W. and Mary Hines Kramer. A graduate of Duryea High School class of 1939, she was employed by Naylor’s Store, W.T. Grants, and prior to her retirement, she was a clerk at K-Mart in the Pittston Plaza. A devout Catholic and member of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Duryea, now Nativity of Our Lord Parish. Marjorie was very active in its Altar and Rosary Society, its Choir, and was a constant at the annual picnics, where she worked a chance booth with her sister, Dort and Grace.
Marjorie had no children, so she made her nieces and nephews and their families her life. She proudly attended their games, concerts, recitals, and any event special in their lives. Affectionately known as “Toots”, “Marge”, and “Sarge”, she will be deeply missed y all who knew and loved her.
We were so blessed to have had such a loving, giving, and selfless person in our lives who made us feel special and always enjoyed being around us. Our hearts are broken, but you showed us what true love is supposed be, and for that we will always be grateful.
Surviving are nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Marie Drula, Dorothy Colman, Grace Kramer, and a brother, August “Budge” Kramer, who was killed in the mines.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday in Nativity of Our Lord Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 127 Stephenson Street, Duryea, to be celebrated by Rev. John Polednak, pastor. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in St. John’s Cemetery, Pittston.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects from 11 AM until the time of the Mass at the church on Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., Old Forge, and are under the direction and care of Toot’s great nephew, Timothy M. Kramer, associate.
