Obituaries

Elizabeth M. Harvey, age 96, a lifelong resident of Scranton, passed away Thursday evening at Highland Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Exeter. Her husband, Robert Harvey, died in 1958.
Born on August 23, 1919, daughter of the late Thomas and Tessie Lawson Hughes, Elizabeth worked as a photo enhancer for Presswoods in Scranton. Also working for the Scranton Unemployment Office and the Scranton Public Library, prior to her retirement, she worked the front desk at the former West Scranton Boy’s Club, for over 20 years. She was also a member of the DeMolay Mothers.
She was a faithful longtime member of the Simpson United Methodist Church. Very active within the church, she served in the church’s Womens Club and baked amazing Welsh cookies for various bake sales. Beloved by family and friends, she will be forever missed.
She is survived by two children, Robert (Bob) Harvey and wife Roselyn of Plains Twp., and Patricia Deuel of Scranton; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by siblings, Robert, Kenneth and an infant, Fred Hughes, and June Martin.
A graveside service by Rev. Arthur Davis is scheduled for Monday, August 22, at noon in Washburn Cemetery. Public viewing for relatives and friends will be Friday, August 19th, between 4-7:00PM at the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Elizabeth’s name to the Boys and Girls Club of Scranton, 609 Ash Street, Scranton, PA., 18510.
