Betty J. McGuire, 89, of Scranton, died Monday morning at Allied Services Skilled Nursing. Her husband of 55 years was William J. McGuire who died September 16, 2015.
Born June 29, 1927 in St. Petersburg, FL to the late James and Ivah Cone Chandler, she attended school in Birmingham, Alabama. A faithful member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, South Scranton, Betty was an avid gardener who loved flowers, crafts, bingo, and Betty Boop. She served as a Den mother with both the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Surviving are her children, Margaret McGuire, Scranton; William McGuire, Scranton; Karen Eddings, Alabama; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by three daughters, Patricia Shafer, Donna McGuire, and Ivah Perry, and a son, Russell Lorino.
The family would like to extend a thank you to all the staff of One North at Allied Services Skilled Nursing for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Betty and the
family throughout her stay. Words cannot truly express our deep appreciation for your kindness.
Funeral Services are scheduled to begin at 9:15 AM on Friday from the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 N Main Avenue, Scranton with a Mass of Christian Burial at
10:00 AM in St. Paul of the Cross Parish at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, 1217 Prospect Avenue, Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Scott Sterowski, Pastor. I
