Joseph J. Lapinski, Jr., 71, of Moosic, died peacefully Tuesday morning at Geisinger-Community Medical Center with his family by his side. His loving wife
of 52 years is the former Helene Lockett.
Born April 19, 1945 in Scranton to the late Joseph and Julia Olejnik Lapinski, he grew up in Moosic. A 1962 graduate of Taylor-Moosic
High School, Joe received his B.S. in Business from the University of Scranton. He retired as branch manager and consultant from LaSaint
Logistics, Pittston. For over 50 years, Joe was very active with the Moosic Youth Center, and acted as the Executive Director for most of
that time. He was instrumental in starting the Dick Rossi Memorial Golf Tournament, one of the main fundraisers for the Center.
Involved in just about any sport there was, he played Semi-Pro Softball for many years. Joe was a long time member of the Moosic
Presbyterian Church.
Although very accomplished himself, his greatest joy and crowning achievement of his life was participating in the lives of his
grandchildren, Haley Colarusso, Madison Hawkins, Blake Hawkins, Mario Colarusso, and Joey Lapinski. He was their greatest supporter
and cheerleader at all their events consistently throughout the years.
Also surviving are: his three children, Leslie Hawkins, and husband, Jim, Spring Brook Twp.; Lynn Colarusso, and husband, Kevin, Old Forge;
Brian Lapinski, and wife, Lisa, Old Forge; and honorary son, Paul Lewis, and wife, Maria, Mullica Hill, NJ; and his five grandchildren
A brother, John Lapinski preceded him in death.
A Celebration of Joe’s Life is scheduled for Thursday at 7:00 PM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge,
with Rev. Roger E. Griffiths, pastor of Moosic Presbyterian Church, officiating. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday from 4 PM until the time of the service in the funeral home.
