Stanley J. David, 100 years young and a lifelong resident of West Scranton, passed away Monday at Dunmore Health Care Center after a brief stay. He was preceded in death on May 27, 2009 by his beloved wife of 68 years, Bridget C. Boruch David.
Born
on March 15, 1916, son of the late Stanley and Theofilia David, he was educated at SS. Peter and Paul’s School, West Scranton. A proud Army veteran of World War II, Stanley received the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal for his admirable service, before being honorably discharged in October of 1945. For 20 years he worked as a baker for the former A&P Bakery in Scranton before retiring from Chamberlain Manufacturing.
He was a devoted lifelong member of SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in West Scranton. He was also an active member of the American Legion Koscuszko Post 207 and enjoyed gardening, fishing and Atlantic City trips with his wife. A family man, he adored his daughters and loved his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews very much. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his daughters and caregivers, Linda Lindner and Barbara Tomaino, both of Scranton; grandchildren, Debra Kohut and husband, Andrew; and Samuel Tomaino and wife, Tara; great-grandchildren, A.J. and Christian Kohut; and Tia Tomaino; and many nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death were siblings, Walter and Henry David; Emily Morgan, Mary Savino and Stella Tucci; and a step-brother, Bartley Marchewka.
His daughters would like to acknowledge and thank the nurses and staff of the Dunmore Health Care Center for the terrific care given to Stanley throughout his stay with them.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Saturday at 8:45 a.m. from the Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at SS. Peter and Paul Church, 1309 W. Locust St., West Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. Sam J. Ferretti, pastor. Interment with full military rites by the AMVETS Honor Guard will follow in the church’s cemetery. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
