Obituaries

Penny Rita Swendsen, 50, of Old Forge, died Sunday at home.
Born Sept. 13, 1965, daughter of Eileen Knapp Dutka, Beach Lake, and the late Edward Amos, Penny was educated at Honesdale High School before earning a degree as a dental assistant. For 10 years, Penny worked as a private duty nurse for Lee’s Nursing Registry in Scranton before its closure.
Of great faith, Penny held a Bible study class for her dear friends. She also served as a volunteer for the Friends of the Poor and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. She was loving, caring and took huge pride in being a mother to her beloved children. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones.
She is survived by her children, William Swendsen, Old Forge; and Jillian Swendsen, Duryea; three sisters, Margarete Mittendorf, Tina Eldred and Tammy Tamburello; nieces and nephews; and two adored pets, “Rocky” and “Minnie.”
Funeral services will be Friday at 6 p.m. in Moosic Alliance Community Church, 608 Rocky Glen Road, Avoca. Relatives and friends may pay their respects from 5 to 6 p.m. at the church.
