Laura Pasternak, age 93, formerly of Clarks Summit, passed away Saturday evening at Geisinger Mountain View Care Center in Scranton, where she had recently resided. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Pasternak, on September 7, 2002.
Born in Ransom, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Nellie Fahs Winters. Laura was a graduate of the former Newton – Ransom High School, before marrying and raising her family.
She was a longtime member of the former Ransom United Methodist Church where she also served in the church’s Womens’ Club and taught Sunday School for more than three decades. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother as well.
She was a selfless woman, serving as caregiver for her mother, husband and brother, before their passing, and cared for her granddaughter, Melissa, for some time after the passing of her daughter-in-law, Katherine. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
She is survived by seven children, two daughters, Darlene Scarince and husband Tom of Newton, New Jersey, whom Laura previously resided with, and Susan Samsock and husband John of Gettysburg; and five sons, Harry Pasternak of Clarks Summit, John Pasternak and wife Mary and Jerry Pasternak and wife Jane, all of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Lawrence Pasternak and wife Jeanne of Scott Twp., and Michael Pasternak and wife Donna of Greenfield Twp.; 23 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Wilma Winters of Ransom and Mary Slenka of Scranton; Michael “Eddie” Suprick, who she considered another brother; and many nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Paula Pasternak; and brothers, Stanley, Kenneth, Frank, Ralph, Howard, Robert, Harry and her twin, Lawrence Winters, also preceded her in death.
Her family would like to thank the entire staff of Mountain View Care Center for the tremendous care given to Laura throughout her stay. Her family would like to especially thank the countless family members and dear friends who took time to visit and spend time with Laura while at Mountain View.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday at 11:00AM at Countryside Community Church, 14011 Orchard Drive in Clarks Summit, to be conducted by Rev. Mark Terwilliger, Pastor. Interment will follow at Milwaukee Cemetery. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday between 9:30-11:00AM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Laura’s name to the Countryside Community Church. Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
