Catherine M. Chickey, age 91, a lifelong resident of Old Forge, passed away Sunday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore, after an illness.
Born on March 16, 1925, Catherine was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Krolak Pawlikowski.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank L. Chickey, on July 9, 1985, and daughter Mary Ann at age 3.
Siblings Mary, Michael, John, Stanley, Frank, Antoinette and Sister Mary Ann, also preceded her in death.
Catherine was educated in St Michael’s Parochial School and Old Forge High School prior to raising her family. Before retirement, she worked for Clarks Summit State Hospital.
Catherine was a longtime member of the former St. Stanislaus Church in Old Forge, prior to its closure, where she was both a devoted member and active volunteer. Her good nature extended beyond the church, as she also volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
Catherine was a loving mother, grandmother and dear aunt who will be forever missed by those who loved her.
She is survived by her three children, Catherine F. Chickey, Frank Chickey, Tom Chickey, a grandson, Ronald Chickey, and many nieces and nephews.
Along with raising her three children, she and her husband also raised six nieces and nephews as their own, the late Joseph Gromelski, Mary Ann DeNucci, Theresa Talierco, the late Ann Frances Johnson, Anthony Gromelski & Stephanie Dorn.
Catherine’s family would like to thank the staffs of Mountain View Care Center, where she had resided for over four years; Geisinger Community Medical Center; and Hospice of the Sacred Heart, for the tremendous care collectively given to Catherine.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday July, 9th, at 10:00AM in St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, 620 S. Main Street in Old Forge, to be concelebrated by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, Pastor, and Rev. Matthew Pawlikowski, West Point Military Academy Chaplain.
Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, (at upper end of Mine Street, Old Forge.). Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Saturday July, 9th, between 8:30-10:00AM at the church.
