Oscar Vance (Blackie) Decker, age 86, of Duryea, passed away Wednesday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes Barre. He is survived by his loving wife, Florence (Lorraine) Chicchillo Decker. The couple would have celebrated their 57th anniversary on June 27th.
Born in Moosic on May 16, 1930, Oscar was the son of the late Adam and Violet Heller Decker. Educated in Moosic Schools and an attendee of the Moosic Alliance Community Church, he retired from Cliff Thorn, Inc.
He enjoyed crossword puzzles, movies and and aimless drives. His great-great-great grandfather an Indian Chief, he was proud of his Native American descent. He possessed a great sense of humor and love for his family, especially his grandchildren, and he will be dearly missed by family and friends.
He is also survived by his children, Vance Decker of Mulberry, FL., John Decker of Throop, Lynn Decker of Duryea and Crystal Ritzco of Pittston; his siblings, Melvin Decker and Nettie Gaughan, both of Glendale, June McDonald of Scranton and Hazel Silfee of Moosic; 16 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Siblings, Adam and Benson Decker, Ruth Ann Moore, Jane Davis and Chililie Poplawski, also preceded him in death.
His family wishes to thank the staff of Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, especially the Dialysis Unit, along with Dr. Joseph Stella, for their care and compassion.
Funeral services by are scheduled for Tuesday at 2:00PM at The Moosic Alliance Community Church, 608 Rocky Glen Road, Moosic. Interment will follow at Marcy Cemetery in Duryea. Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
