Joseph Andrew Ptaszynski, Jr., age 90, of West Scranton, passed away Saturday morning at Moses Taylor Hospital, after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Agnes McHale Ptaszynski, on January 23, 2013.
Born on July 30, 1925, a lifelong resident of Scranton, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph, Sr., and Helen Krieger Ptaszynski. He honorably served in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Metalsmith until earning an Honorable Discharge in 1946. He worked for the GE Corporation and Haynos Cabinetry, before retiring as the Tool Crib Operator from the former McKinney Company of Scranton. Of Roman Catholic faith, he was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish in West Scranton.
A master woodworker, Joseph could craft just about anything out of wood. He was a fixer of anything and everything and a talented handyman who enjoyed doing home repairs, especially electrical and plumbing. He loved spending time with his family, especially during family picnics. He will be forever missed by his adoring daughter, sister, family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter and best friend, Mary Margaret Ptaszynski, at home; his sister, Bernadette Dolan of Scranton; his brother-in-law, Robert Pron of Scranton; nieces and nephews; and his pups, Brandy and Abby.
An infant son, Joseph; and a sister, Pearl Pron, also preceded him in death.
His daughter would like to thank Moses Taylor Hospital’s staff, including the Emergency Room, 2-West, Dietary, Social Service, Administration, and the Hospitalist Program; Dunmore Health Care Center’s staff; Telespond Senior Services’ staff, especially Alice Warren; and to Joseph’s brother-in-law, Robert Pron, for their collective care, compassion and kindness during Joseph’s illness.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Tuesday at 9:00AM from the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with a 9:30AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street in West Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Stephen Krawontka. Interment with full military rites by the AMVETS Honor Guard will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Scranton. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday between 4-7:00PM at the funeral home.
