Beverly Jeanne Day, age 57, of Old Forge, passed away Friday evening at Mountain City Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hazle Twp., after a lengthy illness. On June 14, 1980, she married her loving husband and best friend, Michael Day, who survives.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, on May 31, 1958, daughter of the late William and Betty Phillips Polster, Beverly graduated from Kearny High School in 1976, while achieving numerous academic awards, including induction into the National Honor Society. Upon graduation, her family moved to Scranton where she would work for Fitchburg Coated Products for several years. In 1994, she began a support group for those with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). A longtime sufferer of OCD herself, she was able to help many people with this crippling disease. She also appeared twice on WVIA-TV’s “Call the Doctor” as a member of a panel of experts discussing the disease.
Beverly loved to travel. Her favorite destination was the Caribbean Islands, having visited almost all of them. An avid Peter Catera fan, she loved attending his concerts. On several occasions, she had the pleasure of meeting him. She will forever be missed by her family and friends.
She is also survived by her brother, Donald Polster and wife Dawn of Woodbridge, New Jersey; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by an aunt, Ruth Polster; an uncle, Morty Polster; and a brother-in-law, Paul Day. An animal lover, Beverly adored her Cocker Spaniel, Bundles, who died at 17 years-old.
Her husband would like to thank the entire staffs of Regional Hospital of Scranton, Mountain City Nursing Center, Hazle Twp., and Lackawanna County Area on Aging, especially Mary Jane and Sabrina, for their collective years of care and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Beverly’s name to OCD Foundation, P.O. Box 70, Milford CT., 06460.
Private arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Please visit the funeral home’s website to leave an online condolence.
