Mark T. Dixon, age 53, of Old Forge, died Thursday under the care of Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit, Dunmore, after a courageous battle with colon cancer.
Born in Scranton on September 24, 1962, Mark was the son of Richard and Margaret Ann Kerrigan Dixon of Liberty, North Carolina. A graduate of West Scranton High School, Class of 1981, he was also a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving between 1983 and 1987. He was the owner and operator of Dixon Sealcoating, Inc., where he spent 35 years doing what he enjoyed the most.
Mark enjoyed collecting model trains, playing slots at the Mohegan Sun, and watching both football and NASCAR. His humor was memorable and he certainly touched the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Now at peace, he passed away Thursday evening surrounded by his loved ones. He will be forever missed.
He is survived by his loving fiance and best friend, Debra Ferack of Old Forge; two daughters, Alyssa and Sarah Dixon, both of Taylor; two step daughters, Laura Wagner and husband Jason of Old Forge, and Jessica Ferack and fiance George Evarts of Old Forge; three brothers, Rick Dixon and wife Barbara of Nazareth, Scott Dixon and wife Marykay of Mayfield, and Steve Dixon and wife MaryJean of Taylor; a sister, Amy Dixon-Jones and husband Todd of North Carolina; two grandchildren, Carson and Emmie Lynn Wagner of Old Forge; and nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death was his dear grandfather, William Dixon.
Funeral services, to be conducted by Rev. Stefan Biggs, associate pastor of the Parker Hill Community Church, are scheduled for Monday at 7:00pm in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Military rites by the AMVETS Honor Guard will conclude services.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Monday between 4-7:00PM. In lieu of flowers and as per Mark’s request, memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Jude Childrens’ Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
