Elsie Marie Balascio, age 88, a longtime resident of the Greenwood section of Moosic, died Monday afternoon at Riverside Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Taylor, after an illness. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Albert B. Balascio, in 1984.
She was a talented musician, serving as a church organist and singer. She was also an opera singer, regularly performing at the former Scranton Masonic Temple. Of great faith, Elsie was a former member of the Moosic Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was more recently a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Clarks Summit where her church family meant the world to her. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones.
She is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and a loving extended family from the Heritage Baptist Church.
Funeral services to be conducted by Rev. Glenn Amos, Heritage Baptist Church Pastor, are scheduled for Friday at 11:00AM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, 517 North Main Street in Old Forge. Private burial will follow in Canaan Corners Cemetery, Waymart. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 10:00AM until services at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Elsie’s name to the Heritage Baptist Church, 415 Venard Road, Clarks Summit, 18411.
