Janet M. Carone, age 85 of Moosic, passed away Tuesday morning at the Scranton Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Robert J. Carone, Sr., on October 12, 2000.
Born in Yatesville on May 24, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Placido and Christina Naples Lizza. A worker for several companies in the local garment industry, she retired from Leslie Fay Co. of Plains Twp. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a member of the Queen of the Apostles Parish in Avoca.
Prior to becoming ill, she was an amazing baker who enjoyed supplying her family with an endless amount of baked goods throughout the years. Selfless and loving, Janet served as the heart of her family. Her greatest joy came in spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be forever missed by her dear loved ones.
She is survived by her three children, Sharon Selwocki and husband Gerard of Moosic, Robert Carone, Jr., of Moosic and John Carone and wife Charlotte of Duryea; her three siblings, Carmella Stefanelli of West Pittston, Anthony (Butch) Lizza and wife Bernice of Yatesville and Placido Lizza, Jr., and wife Karen of Plains; her three grandchildren, Christina McAndrew and husband Michael, Joshua Selwocki and wife Carolyn and Jerry Selwocki, Jr.; her four great grandchildren, Lauren, Paige, Michael and Zoltan; and many nieces and nephews.
Siblings, Anna Lizza, Dora Lercara, Joseph, Samuel and Ralph Lizza, also preceded her in death.
Her family wishes to thank the entire staff of Scranton Health Care Center for the tremendous care and compassion shown to both Janet and her family throughout her four-month stay.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Friday at 9:15AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at Queen of the Apostle’s Parish, 715 Hawthorne Street Avoca, to be celebrated by Rev. Philip J. Sladicka, Pastor. Burial will follow in the Old Forge Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday between 5-8:00PM at the funeral home.
