Anna (Ann) Derenick Fiorentini, age 79, of Taylor, passed away Thursday at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, after an illness. Given Ann’s strong faith, her family feels she was truly blessed that the Lord called her home during Holy Week. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Pio J. Fiorentini, on May 5, 2008.
Born on Aug. 19, 1936 and raised in Taylor, she was the daughter of her late father, Mayor John Derenick and wife, Florabel; and her late mother, Mary Cardamone Tinsley and husband, Rollin. A 1954 graduate of the former Taylor High School, she first worked for General Electric. After raising her family she worked at CoreStates (now Wells Fargo) in Taylor for over 20 years, where she served as head teller before her retirement. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a member of Divine Mercy Parish in Scranton.
She enjoyed word puzzles, going out to restaurants and playing with her daughters’ four pups. Nothing gave her more joy than spending time with her children and grandchildren. Loved by all of her family and friends, she will forever be missed.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna Armillay and husband, John of Old Forge; and Laurie Chesek and husband, Michael of Taylor; her three grandchildren, Jamie and Jessica Armillay of Old Forge; and Alyssa Chesek of Taylor; her brother, John (Bud) Derenick and wife, Peg of Taylor; her stepsister, Bonnie Kime of Taylor; her aunts, Mary Derenick of Taylor; and Joan Cardamone of Old Forge; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Kenneth Sebastianelli for the endless care and compassion he gave to both Ann and her family throughout the years.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Divine Mercy, 312 Davis St., Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. Francis L. Pauselli, pastor. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ann’s name to St. Joseph’s Center Foundation, 2010 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18509.
