Rudy Morgan, age 36, of Scranton’s Green Ridge section, died Wednesday morning after an illness. Surviving is his wife and best friend, Casey Novajosky Morgan. The couple married on July 1, 2012.
Born in Scranton on January 11, 1980, Rudy was the son of father, Jack Morgan and his wife Sara of Old Forge and mother, Andrea Kuchinski Schroff and her husband Dr. Richard of Norfolk, Virginia. Raised in Virginia, he earned class valedictorian status at Western Branch High School in Chesapeake, Va. He then attended the University of Virginia where he would graduate in 2001 with Magna Cum Laude honors distinction, and as an Echols Scholar, earning a Bachelors Degree in American Studies. He was currently completing a Masters Degree in Professional Studies in Supply Chain Management from Penn State University Smeal College of Business.
Upon graduation, he moved to Japan where he had briefly taught English to Japanese students. From 2003 to 2014 he worked at his family’s business, Cook’s Wholesale Foods, with locations in Old Forge, Swoyersville and Berwick. His efforts as both project and plant manager resulted in tremendous growth for the third-generation business. Along with completing his Masters Degree, he was currently working for Corning Life Sciences as a customer service coordinator.
Holding APICS CPIM certification, he served as APICS Northeastern Chapter President. Also holding a Minor from the University of Virginia in Classical Guitar, he was a talented guitarist himself. He also enjoyed his world travels. Caring, gentle, humble but proud, Rudy will be forever missed by the many family and friends he leaves behind.
He is also survived by his siblings, John Morgan of Turlock, California, Rick Schroff, III, Elizabeth Rettie and husband Jordan and Samantha Schroff, all of Norfolk, Va.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Vicki Crispell Novajosky and husband, William; maternal grandmother, Tekla Kuchinski; aunts and uncles, Gilbert Morgan and wife Deborah, Henry, James and Michael Kuchinski and John Kuchinski and wife Robin; a sister-in-law, Courtney Burridge and husband Justin; and a nephew, Jase William Burridge.
Paternal grandparents, John (Cooke) and Virginia Price Morgan, and a maternal grandfather, Henry (Hank) Kuchinski, preceded him in death.
A 10:30AM Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday at Divine Mercy Parish to be celebrated by Rev. Francis L. Pauselli, Pastor. Interment, St. Mary of Czestochowa Cemetery, Moosic.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rudy’s name to either NAMI, National Alliance on Mental Illness, P.O. Box 62596, Baltimore, MD., 21264, or, with Rudy’s love for animals, to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Twp., Pa., 18411.
